AS Coursework Reflection

AS Coursework Reflection

        Digital Technology

The software that we used to create our media presentation was Sony Vegas 12. We used several pieces of filming equipment such as as Digital SLR and a tripod. However we could have used the Tripod to its true potential. Another piece of equipment we could have used was a Steadicam, allowing us to get stiller images with less camera shake

The good aspects of using a high end program like Sony Vegas was that we had lots of options available to us, allowing us to edit our 2 minutes the way we wanted too, however it didn't have the ability to edit individual sounds which would have been ideal. Another issue with using Sony Vegas was that the school didn't have it installed on their computers, so i was only able to edit it from home. which wasted quite a lot of time.

Technology was used in every part of the production, from filming to editing, to distributing. As we used modern Digital SLR's to film high resolution clips. We then edited it all together using software on a computer. Then once we'd completed this steps we then uploaded it to our blogs making it available for viewing.

The technology allowed us to create our production the way we did because of Sony Vegas 12 we were able to alter many things about our clips, such as changing the brightness of certain scenes however technology was limited as we obviously didn't have top of the range equipment, meaning we were only limited to what the school had or what was at home.

Creativity

We looked at similar trailers and films that we liked and altered
them slightly to give our trailer a more personal feel. Many of the ideas
came from similar, much bigger films such as Cabin In The Woods and the
Wrong Turn films. We worked collaboratively by allowing each member of
the group to put in their own individual ideas, meaning not just one person
was deciding something.

We changed many things about our opening two minutes for numerous reasons, such as a lack of equipment, things breaking or not charging or just not being able to get a hold of things like we thought we could.

I used programs like Sony Vegas 12 and Audacity to alter small things about our opening two minutes such as the brightness of a certain scene or by changing certain sounds using specialist software. It was these top of the range software which allowed me to edit the footage much better than i could if i were using Adobe Elements, which the school provided.

•                   What was the intended outcome of the production? (assessment objectives, preferred readings, promotional purposes?)

•                   How were these outcomes achieved in terms of page layout and camera shot choices (codes and conventions)?
